Question : i have sore throat and now start to have cough.. i went to pharmacy and the pharmacist gave me almox500 for 3times a day for 5 days..is it necessary?

Hi, thanks for your query.

You have sore throat with cough, in my opinion I feel probably you have throat infection.

Almox 500 mg tab is penicillin antibiotic which is given generally in throat infection.

I feel, initially you just take anti inflammatory medicine, like paracetamol+diclofenac+ serratiopeptidase combination tablet twice daily for 2 days.

Do salt water gargle or beta dine gargle 3 to 4 times per day.

Avoid cold foods and oily foods. With this medication you wilt feel better.

If symptoms have not subsided with this medication, or if you develop fever, then it suggest that you need antibiotics.

Then you can take penicillin antibiotic (amox 500 mg + clavulunic acid 125mg) twice daily for 5 to 7 days. Along with anti inflammatory medicine suggested. You can also take Almox 500 then.
