Question : I started wheezing last night as I was leaving work. I just took some Flovent because my chest feels tight this morning. Should I go to the ER?

Flovent is a preventer and it is used to reduce the frequency of asthmatic attacks but it would not help when an attack is occurring.

During an asthmatic attack, reliever medication is needed. eg Ventolin. If you have a reliever inhaler, you can use this to help with the acute symptoms.

If you do not have an reliever inhaler or you used it already with no relief or you are feeling very unwell, then you should go to the ER.

You may need to be nebulized and may need a course of steroids as well.
