Is An X-ray Enough To Diagnose Any Abnormality In My Feet?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Dec 2021
Question: Hello, I am looking for someone to evaluate an X-ray of my foot. My podiatrist made the X-rays and hasn't given me any useful information or even given me a report to take to another doctor.

Brief Answer:
Higher investigations are required to assess the symptoms in your case.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have worked through your attached query and images in detail.

The images suggest no major pathology.

X ray does not have the capacity to reveal every disease element.

Your symptoms could be related to underlying connective or a neural tissue element.

Hence it's advisable to consider MRI scan of both foot plus NCV ( nerve conduction study) of both lower limbs.

Further management if any is largely based on test reports.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these tests to you.

Post your further questions if any.
Thank you

Hello and thank you for the polite and helpful reply. My physiotherapist commented that I am slightly hammertoed. I never thought about it as I think my feet have always been that way. Is this apparent in the X-ray?

Last years x-rays report indicates no degeneratuve changes. Is that also the case? I just want to give my physio as much info as positively as she is more helpful than my podiatrist.

I finally received a report from my podiatrist (I had to call them three times). According to the podiatrist, there is an "osteophyte of the Dorsal aspect of the head of the first metatarsal bone."

Do you concur with this finding? If so, could this be the cause of any pain? I'm not a radiologist, but I can't see it and I do not see any decreased joint space. It looks almost the same as last year's X-ray.

I have attached last year's X-ray for comparison.

Thanks so much. I just can't afford to see him anymore. I am also not sure if he is the right podiatrist for me.

Thank you for your help

Brief Answer:
Osteophyte could be a potential cause of pain

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Pain could be related to osteophyte formation.

Yes, I do agree with this finding given by the radiologist.

It's advisable to consult an orthopedic surgeon in person and discuss the need for any operability.

Post your further questions if any.

Thank you

Hello again. I looked at the X-ray carefully and the only thing that I can see above the first metatarsal bone is a shadow from the athletic tape my physio wrapped around my foot. If you look carefully, you will see the line traverse the screen.

Anyway, looking forward to your response. Let me know if I'm asking too much for the fee! Sorry to be a bother.

Brief Answer:
It's an expert opinion and should be trusted

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Osteophyte projections can sometimes appear as minor surface bony spurs or elevations.

These can be picked up by expert radiologist .

As non medical individuals carry their own limitations, one cannot rule out the possibility of an osteophyte.

It's advisable to consult an orthopedic surgeon in person to determine further course of action.

Post your further questions if any.
Thank you
