Question : Hi Doctor,
I had fever, headache, and a throat infection last week (18-04-2025). I took medication from a pharmacy and have recovered. However, the phlegm production has continued till now. I would like to know if this is expected to reduce gradually or if any treatment is needed.

About me:
I’m on a high-calorie and high-protein diet as part of my weight gain journey. I consume a lot of natural sugars (banana, dates, honey, unsweetened cocoa powder). I exercise regularly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

A lingering phlegm after throat infection is common and usually clears in 1–3 weeks. Since your fever and other symptoms have resolved, it's likely part of normal recovery.

You can try:

Steam inhalation twice daily

Stay hydrated

Short course of Ebastine or Montelukast (if allergy suspected)

If phlegm becomes yellow/green, foul-smelling, or lasts beyond 2 weeks, see a local doctor, so he/she can examine.

I hope, your query is clear now. Thank you.
