Is Application Of Apple Cider Vinegar On A Mole Safe?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Oct 2016
Question: Hello....about fifteen months ago I removed a mole from the back of my leg by using Apple cider vinegar. After applying the apple cider vinegar for a few days it formed a scab which fell off, and now there is just a small, flat pinkish scar which is fading slowly. The mole had been about the size of a pencil eraser, was light brown and only very slightly raised. Prior to doing this I had it checked by a few doctors, all of whom told me it was normal, including a dermatologist who looked at it the week before I removed it, and he had also told me it was normal/benign. I have also just now visited another dermatologist for a skin cancer screening, and that doctor told me that the scar/spot looked fine. Since I tend to suffer from health anxiety, I'm looking for some type of verification and reassurance that I didn't cause any damage using this method, specifically, anything like the possibility of causing cancer or melanoma on any of the remaining cells or below the surface/ into the bloodstream that just can't be seen on the surface?? Also, I presume the fact that the Apple cider vinegar was successful in causing it to scan and fall off supports the conclusion that it was benign? Thanks for your expertise!

Brief Answer:
Calf melanoid

Detailed Answer:
DEAR XXXXX,

APPRECIATE YOU FOR BEING HEALTH CONSCIOUS AND SEEKING OPINION TO CLEAR YOUR DOUBT.
AS FAR THE SCAR IS HEALTHY AND CHANGING ITS COLOR TOWARDS NORMAL. THE SCAR AND THE AREA AROUND THE SPOT HAS NORMAL COLOR AND NO INDURATION, YOU SHOULD CONSIDER IT WAS A SMALL BENIGN WART WHICH HAS GONE.
TO BE MORE SURE YOU HAVE TO LOOK FOR ANY SUCH CHANGE IN THE PROCESS OF TIME, FEATURES OF WHICH I HAVE DESCRIBED ABOVE AND IF THERE IS NONE OF THESE, IT AGAIN CONFIRMS IT WAS A BENIGN LESION.

Thank you for your reassurances Dr. Ticku! So to confirm, presuming it was a normal lesion, there is no way that I could have caused any cancerous changes in the cells or the bloodstream by using the Apple cider vinegar to remove it, correct?

Brief Answer:
Melanoid

Detailed Answer:
Dear,
you are right.
any mole which has abrupt change in any form as described in my earlier answer is to be looked with suspicion.
If no such change so far you are safe. Relax and best of luck

Thank you once again Dr. Ticku! As I indicated, my health anxiety is at an all-time high, primarily because earlier this year I weaned off Cymbalta, thereafter tried Wellbutrin which made my anxiety worse (triggering my latest health anxiety exacerbation) and I am now currently starting Lexapro (and am having the increased anxiety associated with the SSRI start-up). It's been a tough couple of months for me, so I certainly appreciate your indication that I should relax... You made me feel much better (now I just have to stop googling medical conditions and repeatedly checking my skin!)! Oh, and I have to stop my mind from wandering because I'm having pain in that same leg, which I am 99 percent certain is sciatica, but my mind was convinced that I somehow created cancerous changes with my at-home melanoid removal! Thank you again for your time, expertise, and assurances.

Brief Answer:
Melanoid.

Detailed Answer:
Dear,
There are many more causes of leg pain. Symptomatic management will help. Melanoma has first tendency to spread to lymph nodes and followed by liver. Again I advise you to relax and get your leg pain treated by conservative method.
Truly.

Thank you once again for all of your advice Dr. Ticku! I have two final questions: unfortunately, when I googled Apple cider vinegar removal of moles I came across an article inferring that the Apple Cider vinegar irritation could cause cancerous changes (which sent my anxiety into a tailspin!)...since I certainly value your opinion as an oncologist can you confirm again that by using the vinegar on a benign mole/ Nevus there is no possibility that I could have potentially created any cancerous changes into the remaining cells or bloodstream? And finally, once again, if there had been any issues with the original mole there would
be changes apparent on the skin which would be visible now? Thank you once again so very much for putting up with my crazy anIety-induced questions....you have been wonderful!

Brief Answer:
Melanoid

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXX,
Appreciate your concern. Apple cider is coincidental factor but all factors really are not cancer forming.Without any change on the skin, lymph nodes or Visceral organs, there is no apprehension.
Feel good and proceed for better life.
