Question : I also hve a pressure sore on the back of my thigh right below my buttocks (Stage 2). My question is after cleaning it with soap and water is it better to bandage it or let it remain uncovered so as to let it breath? Also any other advice you may be able to give me on its care would be great. Also what are the best habits as far as cleaning clothing and bedding so as not to spread staph possibly to my children? Are there any specialized detergents or cleaners that you would sugest I buy or use. Thank you in advance for taking the time to assist me in this.

Brief Answer:
I suggest to keep it covered to prevent infections.

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. As you have a stage II sore, it should be self-resolving not really requiring serious intervention. It is best to cover the wound with a dressing mainly because the dressing helps keep the wound moist, and the surrounding skin dry which is a good environment for the sore to heal and also protects it from infections.

Other pointers include:

+Make sure avoid pressure to the region in all possible ways with the help of a comfortable mattress, cushions to help provide you with a position that will help prevent pressure on the sore

+Clean the sore with a saline solution each time you change your dressing

+Make sure you change the dressing as frequently as possible

+While changing your dressing make sure you try to remove or at least try to loosen up the debris and dead skin which will promote the growth of new skin cells

+Antibiotics if the wound is infected: To be confirmed by a doctor and prescribed

+Pain management only if there is pain that you cannot tolerate

+Lifestyle changes: Be XXXXXXX do not be immobile. Use multi-vitamins, high-protein food, vitamin C especially, etc.

+Try to maintain good hygiene

Nothing more than this should be required, and I am sure your grade II pressure sore shall soon be history. Kindly reach out incase of further queries.

Best wishes.
