Is Bilateral Surgery For Hips Safe And Effective For Torn Gluteal Tendon?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: I am about to have Bilateral surgery for both hips for torn Gluteal tendon. The left hip being worse I have obviously chosen to have this repaired first. MRI states High Grade partial-thickness tearing of the gluteus minimus tendon with a few fibres remaining intact. Moderate greater trochanteric bursitis. Plus mild hamstring tendinosis and low insertional tearing of the semimembranosus tendon. I have had pain for nearly two years in total and my quality of life much reduced mobility wise - Is this the only solution and how successful or risky is the operation. What should I be doing post operatively.

Brief Answer:
These are very successful surgeries

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Most of these tendon repairs are very successful Their repair depends mostly on health of the tendon. If tendon is of good quality than healing will take very fast. You will need to do some rest at least one month after surgery and than you can start walking with out support. Though this time can differ according to repair quality.
Also once these tendons are completely healed than you can walk normally. Running and games can take up to 6 months though.
As far as treatment method is concerned surgery is the only solution.
