Question : My husband had a reading of 7.4 for the PSA test, a few months ago. He was treated with antibiotic
for 2 months. He also had shingles at the same time, so our MD put him on acyclovir, and the shingles went away. He went for his PSA last week, it dropped to 3.7. Today, he went to the urologist, he did an ultrasound, and said that he saw calcification in his prostate, to go to an herbalist he recommended, and in 2 months he will do a biopsy. I am terrified. I am a retired nurse, I know about CA myself. Why is he waiting for 2 months to do the biopsy?

Brief Answer:
NOTHING TO WORRY.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXX and welcome to HCM.
You don't have to worry in the least. your concern is understandable.
As an Urologist myself, i can reassure you, that there must've been a prostatitis causing the initial PSA to have gone up, which became normal after treatment with antibiotics. Once normalised , a biopsy is not a must.If he's planning to wait for 2 months, it's probably to repeat the PSA once more and to give time for the initial changes of any inflammation or infection to resolve completely.
Probably, it's the protocol of that particular department that requires it be done.
Hope your anxiety has disappeared. Feel free to contact me for any more doubts.
Wishing you well.

Thank you so much, Dr Mangat. I suspected prostatitis, since he responded so quickly to the ABT. He had it 25 years ago. He is an avid bicyclist, so now he has the proper seat. He had one testicle removed 10 years ago, suspicious hydrocele.
He (we) suffer from ED. I feel bad for him in that regard. I saw somewhere in my studies many years ago that sex helps with the prostatitis. Need to deal with that. I cannot tell you how you have relieved my mind. Our families and several of my close friends have had so much illness, death. I am not up to losing him as well ,
but God is in control. Have a wonderful evening. I think you are in the UK, the word "normalised" gave that away. HaHa

Hi again.
Well, i was in the U.K. sometime back. I'm happy to know, you're relieved.
Even though i couldn't understand, why a testis needs to be removed in a ?? hydrocele surgery, as recent as ten years.
Now coming to ED, if you can tell me if he's on any other medications, i could suggest the safe treatment for that.
Only God controls the events in our life. We really have to face them. There's no option.
Hope you and hubby have a great time.

He had the hydrocele for many years, and the urologist who performed the surgery
I think in 1999 did not want to take any chances. He is on lisinopril for hypertension, well controlled, and crestor, with good numbers on labwork from 3 weeks ago. Thank you once again for your XXXXXXX advice.

Hi again.
Well, glad to note his B.P. is well controlled with medicines.
He should be able to try Viagra tablet, half hour before intercourse.
As you may be knowing, it starts acting only after a sexual stimulation.
You can get the tablet prescribed by your doctor, and hope your problem
will be better.
Wish you both a good sexual health.

Thank you again for your wise counsel. We will discuss this option. I wish I knew what causes this. But regardless, we are contented lovebirds right now. Jungle fever is long over. Take care and God bless!

Thanks, Doctor Mangat. I will do a lot of research on Viagra. I do not want him getting a headache. What a wonderful way for a doctor to reach out to patients.
It must be gratifying.
