Question : I take coversyl plus HD for my high blood pressure. I take my daily pill first thing in the morning with a glass of water. Lately I have been quite dizzy midday and feel a bit unstable when I walk. I just took my blood pressure and it was 102/71...I am away on holidays and can't see my doctor right now. Any suggestions what I should do?

Brief Answer:
dose reduction is probably the best action until you consult your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

first of all I suppose that HD is a diuretic (?), indapamide perhaps? Anyway, since your symptoms and measurement are consistent with postural hypotension symptoms I would suggest reducing the dose by taking coversyl only (without the other drug). Although 102/71 is not low enough to justify these symptoms, patients with such readings may experience symptoms when getting up from the recumbent positition or when standing.

Of course, you should consult your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor knows your complete medical history and is the best person to give you advice about your health.

I hope you find my comments helpful!

I appreciate your reply. Just to clarify, Coversyl is perindopril erbumine the Plus HD is indapamide. 8mg and 2.5mg. These together are actually made as a single pill and I take one a day. To reduce my dosage should I take 1/2 a pill until I get home and see my doctor? Or do you have another solution? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
1/2 pill or 1 pill of perindopril only

Detailed Answer:
You're welcome!

Taking half a pill should be OK, unless your blood pressure starts to rise again. In that case you should return to your usual dosage.

Splitting the pill to half shouldn't be done sometimes because it may affect the way a pill works. Pills scored down the middle are usually supposed to be split. Hard coated pills or capsules are not. Combination drugs (like yours) may have a different amount of drug in each half unless they're designed to be split.

So in conclusion, the easiest thing you can do is to check whether your pills can be split into half or not. If they can be split then you can take 1/2. The best option would be to find a perindopril only pill (without indapamide) and take it. Taking the half dose of two drugs will affect the blood pressure less than taking the regular dose of only one of the drugs.

Kind Regards!
