Question: Hi Doctor,

My wife is 5 weeks pregnant. We are told that food such as cheese should be avoided during pregnancy. Incidently she had cheese yesterday for lunch (Cheese Pav Bhaji). Although she is not having any adverse symptoms, She is little worried.

She is insisting on consulting doctor. please advice if this is necessary.

Also please inform about the typical food one should avoid during pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

The cheese that is available in XXXXXXX (cheddar, mozarella) is safe during pregnancy. Only some specially processed cheese are not that safe. These specially processed cheese are not easily available in XXXXXXX

Everyone eats cheese during pregnancy without any problem.

There is no need to worry. No need to consult doctor on such minor issues.
The foods that are better avoided in pregnancy are papaya, raw meats, raw fish, fish oil, raw (not boiled) milk, seeds like sesame fenugreek fennel, pineapple.
She should not eat anything that causes vomiting. She must have those foods that she has craving for.

Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
