Question: I had a picc line inserted yesterday. The only time I feel discomfort in my chest is if I lie on either side. If I lie on my back I am fine. Is this normal?

I have read and understood your health concerns.
Discomfort means what? Breathing difficulty? Pain ? Etc..
If there is no pain and breathing difficulty, then you should not be worried about it. Look for any redness and swelling in your arm. If these are also not present , then there is nothing to worry about .
Sometimes a patient do complain variety of symptoms but if there is no pain and breathing problem, then it got well on its own.
There is need to get the chest x ray if there is pain and breathing problem.
Just stay calm and continue with your routine chores.

The discomfort in the chest is like a poking feeling..not hard but a dull poke when I move or lie on either side. No fever, redness, swelling. Still normal?

I really appreciate your follow up.

Since it does not seem to be significant but you should get your chest x ray so that it can be better correlated. The position of the inserted catheter can be easily checked on x-ray.

If chest x ray comes normal then i do not think it is significant.

Meet your physician so that you can appropriately managed.

Hope it helps
