Question: Hallo Doctor,
I am 40 years of age and my wife is 33 year old. We have no baby till date. we are planning for that. We are doing sexual intercourse from D10 to D20 for last 2 months. During sexual intercourse i use coconut oil on my penis as lubricant for smooth penetration. Without lubricant both of us feel pain. I want to know that whether use of coconut oil as lubricant may cause a problem for my wife for being pregnant. Kindly suggest me from your valuable suggest. What should we do for early pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
You can use coconut oil.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Using coconut oil as a lubricant during sex is harmless and does not interfere with conception. You can continue using it or use a neutral jelly like -Y jelly for lubrication.
The natural conception rates in humans is very low, about 20% to 22% at the time of ovulation in healthy young couples. This means if 100 couples try at the time of ovulation only 20 get pregnant and others have to try again. So low is fertility among humans. Also, fertility in women is strongly related to her age and women are most fertile in their 20 and fertility starts declining after 30 and more so after their 35 years.
As you have been trying only since recent months and your menstrual cycles seem to be regular I would suggest that you try at least for another 7 to 8 months before starting evaluation for infertility. I say 7 to 8 months based on your age and also the small proportion of patients who conceive naturally after 6 months of frequent unprotected intercourse.
Do take tab. Folic acid 5 mg once daily as a preconceptional vitamin and evaluation may be appropriate if you fail to conceive within 8 months.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
