Question: For high BP, Hydralazine gives me a bad headache, & that plus Amlodipind both cause hair loss. I read that Cod liver oil can be helpful but how much per day would be advisable? BP is around 159/109 in the morning if I take no meds.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I would explain that Cod liver oil can help reduce blood pressure values, but its efficacy is much lower compared to that of Amlodipine or Hydralazine.

So, considering your blood pressure values, I don't think that Cod Liver oil will help reduce your blood pressure values up to the normal limits.

Coming to this point, as you do not tolerate well amlodipine, I would recommend switching to another anti-hypertensive drug like ARB (Losartan, Valsartan) or ACEI (Ramipril, Berlipril, etc). in order to have good control of blood pressure values.

Cod liver oil can help too. Anyway, it would be better checking vitamin D plasma levels before taking this oil, as it contains vitamin D (in order to avoid overdose with vitamin D).

I would also recommend reducing salt and caffeine intake, in order to have better control over your blood pressure values.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

For some fifteen years now, I have had pain in the lower right & left front ribs area, however, nothing shows up on X-rays, etc., & several dr's--including pain specialists---are baffled. We have pinned it down to nerve pain & I have had two nerve block procedures which did not help. Sometimes the pain becomes so intense that I have to go to the Emergency room for a shot, just to give me one day's relief. The Dr. has me on MS Contin & Gabapentin, however I still get flare-ups & the Meds don't help. Any ideas, please?

Brief Answer:
I would recommend as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The pain in this region could be related to different possible causes: chronic degenerations of the thoracic spine, fibromylagia, abdominal distension due to excessive gas, etc..

Have you tried using an antispastic like buscopan? It can help calm abdominal distension.

I would also recommend performing cervico-thoracic spine MRI studies.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing good health.
