Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

I am sorry that your husband is having these symptoms of dry heaves. This is certainly an uncomfortable type of symptom. It is possible that this might be related to his underlying heart condition but the only way to determine this with any level of certainty would be to have him seen by a physician for a good physical examination and possibly some laboratory studies. It ispossible that his medication regimen needs to be adjusted.

Regarding the dry heaves you could try antacid medication such as omeprazole once or twice per day to see if this helps. This particular medication decreases the acid content of the stomach and might alleviate some of his symptoms.

If he's otherwise feeling relatively well I think this is something that you can bringto the attention of his primary care physician who can manage this definitively.

If however he is dealing with progressive shortness of breath or chest pain than he should be seen in the emergency department as soon as possible.

Thank you again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
