Is Ejection Fraction Of 55 A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Apr 2017
Question: I am 67 years old I had a echo cardiogram done and my heart valves were good my ejection fraction was 55. On the whole when I go to the doctor my blood pressure is good, however recently I have been under a lot of stress, I wake up in the morning with a pressure 118-120/ 70, however during the day my pressure has been any where from 135- 142/ 85. Could you have a good echo cardiogram and ejection fraction rate and still have high blood pressure. Or could stress effect it through out the day? or should it just spike and go back to normal. The reason I am asking I been to a vein specialist to have some surface veins repaired, he notice my blood pressure and mentioned it. So I purchased a blood pressure cup and decided to start checking it, I have not kept a record yet will start tomorrow. But I do believe I recalled my pressure drop last week during the day to 124/75 but can't recall the hour. Could a person have a good ejection rate and valves and have high blood pressure? or could the stress being effecting it so much during the day? I have been taking care of my wife who under went surgery its gotten to me. Or should stress just spike it and then it drop?

Hello Sir

I have gone through the medical details provided by you, Am Dr Bhanu Partap and am a Cardiology Practitioner.

Sir first of all i want to tell you that yes stress is an important factor for temporary rise in the blood pressure.

But all your Blood pressure readings are well within the normal recommended range which is less than 140/90 mmHg and you are also on a very active work out schedule.

I would like to advise you that dont worry, just keep stress away, follow health lifestyle and enjoy your life to fullest.

I hope this information will answer your query. If you have any doubt you can ask me back or else you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.

I wish you good health
