Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: Namesthe Sir,

I am XXXX , My mother was done a ultrasound and found that the endometrail thickness was 26 mm..1 week ago.. she had the similar test done in 2011 the tickness was about 11mm..she was suffering from pain while urinating and consulted the physician in australia where she is living now with me.. The doctor initially checked that there is some small lump inside the vagina..the lump is tested and sent the sample for biopsy, the results are good and no cancer.. but now doctor also advised to do the following tests in 3 weeks.

1. Historoscopy, Dilation and curettage of uterus..

We couldnot get an earlier appointment to do the above test..

Is the endometrial thickness of 26 mm related to cancer..
Also, In the Utrasound they found 2 small uterine fibroids..
No abnormality found in the urinary tract..

Any suggesstions or conclusion about cancer

Brief Answer:
Hysteroscopy and D & C is the best test

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Endometrial thickness >5 mm in the post-menopausal woman calls for investigation.Your mother's endometrial thickness is 26 mm. and this has to be investigated to rule out any pathology.
The doctor has advised properly as the best test is hysteroscopy, dilatation and curettage of endometrium [this is seeing through hysteroscopy and curetting].
Whether it is related to cancer ? Best way to know is pathological examination of endometrial curettings [because endometrium is neither too thick nor thin to neglect].
Your mother was treated for breast cancer, diabetic and she is over weight- these are high risk factors. So please go ahead with the procedure as advised by the doctor.
good luck

is there any danger of waiting for the test for 3-4 weeks
hysteroscopy, dilatation and curettage of endometrium...

Is there any chance of passing the cancer to other parts.. with in 4 weeks..
will there be further increase of endometrial thickness with in 4 weeks.. or an increase of the fibroid which is currently 21 mm...

Actually we could not get an appointment in public hospital in australia to do this test.. if it it is very urgent we have to do the test in private hospital which is costly for us.. please advice whther i have to do now in private or can we wait for 4 weeks and do the test..

As i said there is small lump below uterus, has been done biopsy there is no cancer in that...result.. do you think there is still a chance of cancer in the uterine..

Brief Answer:
You can wait for 4 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Probably there is no danger of waiting for 3-4 weeks.Cancer spreading to other parts during this time is hypothetical as the cancer has not been proved yet [there is not much clinical evidence that waiting for 4 weeks may adversely affect the out come].
Slight increase of endometrial thickness possible during waiting period. You can wait for 4 weeks.
Doctor who has examined the patient can tell whether there is any abnormality. It has to be proved by pathological test to declare cancer.
Good luck
