Is Greyish Spot On Teeth A Sign Of Tooth Decay?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Nov 2015
Question: I have suddenly spotted a faint greyish spot on my lower incisor teeth. I am worried if it is a sign of tooth decay. I brush my teeth daily morning after waking up. I used to brush them twice a day but lately I have skipped brushing in the night. There is no pain or sensitivity there. Suddenly noticed it today while brushing. I use a normal toothbrush and Dabur red toothpaste. I have attached a picture of my teeth.

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of dental stains.

Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern.
After having gone through the history and the uploaded picture which shows the pigmented deposits which seems to have caused dental (teeth) stains. Staining is not due to tooth decay.
Such stains are usually caused by intake of coffee, alcohol, cola or other drinks or other foods. Smoking also causes extrinsic stains.
These stains can be removed or prevented by:

1. Brushing your teeth after EVERY MEAL will help to prevent stains.
2. Rinse your mouth with water after having alcohol, coffee or other drinks or foods that can stain your teeth.
3. Regular cleanings by a dental hygienist also will help to remove surface stains
4. Discoloration often can be removed by applying a bleaching agent to the tooth enamel.

Hope the suggestions given above could be useful in getting rid of the stains.
Best regards.
