Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
There are many questions in this query so I will answer them one by one:
1. Is it safe to have sex on day 2 or 3 of periods.
Yes, menstraution is the safest part of the cycle where
pregnancy is impossible. The relatively safe days are upto 7 days from day 1 of the period and 3-4 days before beginning of the next period in women with regular periods. The chance of pregnancy during this period is low and during the bleeding phase is zero.
2. About use of novelon:
If you are on novelon and take it regularly there is no need to use any other protection. However if you miss more than one pill then the efficacy of the treatment is decreased. Repeatedly missing pills and taking them late will also decrease the efficacy of pills and they may not protect against pregnancy. So please check and inform me about how many pills you have missed in the second pack and the dates of missed pills.
For future please remember if you miss more than 2 pills, you need to use another contraceptive method in that cycle. Also it is best to use backup
contraception like condom for 7 days if you miss one pill. [ delayed intake of pill more than 3 hours is called missing the pill]
3. Will you get pregnant:
You had sex on day 12 of period. It is in the middle of fertile period when not using the pill. With the pill and missed dosage, ovulation may become irregular so fertile days are not predictable. Still if you have used pills. They will provide some protection. There is a method called emergency contraceptive pills that can be used if there is a single unprotected sexual act. However they are not to be used in women already on
oral contraceptive pills.
So my advice is the chances are low but not zero. You will just have to wait till the next period and take your pills regularly till then. See if the periods come. If they come, pregnancy is ruled out. If they are missed get a pregnancy test done after 7 days. If it is positive, then you will need to see a gynecologist for prescription as the drugs mifepristone and
misoprostol for
abortion are not sold over the counter and also an examination is mandatory before taking the drugs. They can be taken till 63 days from the date of the last period.
The chances that you may be pregnant are low as you have used pills and it was a single act. So do not worry so much.
Hope this satisfies your query.
