Brief Answer:
Significant blood loss is normal after major surgery like hers

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I would first like to ask what her haemoglobin level was prior to the surgery?

Any joint replacement surgery is considered major surgery, and blood loss can be quite a bit. Although in most cases we go about blood transfusions during the surgery itself, but sometimes we find it unnecessary because the blood loss is not that significant or because we allow the patient to recover and replenish the losses by themselves (naturally).

The main question here is what her haemoglobin level was prior to surgery to assess the amount of blood loss, and whether or not your mother will require a blood transfusion.

I look forward to hearing from you in order to help you further. Please do not hesitate to write to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Need to initiate transfusions and oral supplementation

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again.

There is a significant amount of blood loss which warrants blood transfusion. Please also check with your surgeon whether there was blood transfused during or after surgery so we can also establish whether there are any other influencing factors causing the lowering of haemoglobin levels.

But for now we can start with iron supplementation and plan blood transfusions. Please discuss this with her doctor. But I should also state that this is commonly seen after such major surgeries. Please also do not hesitate to write to me anytime, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
