Is Implanting Drugs In The Eye A Safe Approach Of Treatment?

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: my wife is scheduled for cataract surgery in 4 weeks, during our visit with the doctor, he said that in stead of putting 3 drops of med in her eye daily for one month, he would implant medicine in her eye that will release the needed portion daily, and she would only need one drop daily for 30 days instead of 3 drops.
We would like your opinion of this procedure. He also said that this is a new procedure , How new? Is it safe?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Please, state the name of the drug!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this cataract that your wife has. However, am happy that she is receiving the necessary treatment to restore her sight. Implanting drugs into the eye is not a strange or dangerous approach. To provide a specific answer on this question, it is very important to know what specific drug this doctor is talking about. This way, I can tell you if this is a recent procedure or not. The cataract surgery is not a new procedure and maybe the drug he is talking about is new. However, state the name for me to provide more details and make your response personalized and helpful. Otherwise, I might go on providing generic information which isn’t really what you want from us.

I hope to hear from you as soon as possible and promise to respond promptly.
