Question: Hi, i would like to understand the reliability of the below information gathered from media and friends:
1. The commercial honey available in the market contains antibiotics as the honey bees are provided with antibiotics to increase their disease resistance. so, the honey is more harmful than it's benefits.
2. cooking food in microwave oven is harmful as microwave radiation is employed. This increases the risk of cancer.

Brief Answer:
1) is sort of true. 2) is false

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX My name is Vinay. I will be glad to help you with this.

1) Yes, antibiotics are used in brood disease and other bee infections and these antibiotics can end up in the Honey. Now I do not approve of the practice and I try to buy honey that is farmed organically myself. But there is no DEFINITIVE proof that the antibiotics present in these levels are harming people. So I cannot comment officially on the risk versus benefit of using honey. My own common sense tells me that even in small doses these antibiotics would have negative effects on the bacteria already present in the gut. So I would avoid them if possible.

2) Microwaves use ionizing radiation to excite the water molecules in the food you are heating up. Once the microwave is off, the radiation is gone. There have never been any proven associations of cancer and the use of microwaves. So I would say that one is Logically and Empirically false.

I hope this helps.

Vinay
