Question : Thank you. I am a 63 year old female with hypothyroid and fybrocystic breasts. Dr recommended iodine starting at 500 mcgs. Having hard time titrating. After 2 weeks breast feels better but energy is low.
Brief Answer:
Iodine and Thyroid
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
Iodine supplementation may only help in iodine deificiency induced hypothyroidism, but not in other types of hypothyroidism. And Iodine may not do any good for fibrocystic disease of breast. The recommended dose is around 150 to 200 mcg iodine a day. Too much iodine is defenitley not good and even may harm the thyroid gland. I strongly recommend to meet a surgeon to decide regarding the fibrocystic disease.
