default
Posted on Sat, 11 Oct 2014
Question: Since i was treated with Trichomoniasis during my 8th week pregnancy, my obgyn prescribed me to take Duphaston 3x a day to prevent the complication of having a preterm baby. Do u think its necesarry to drink duphaston 3x a day all thru out my pregnancy? Sometimes i dont drink the medicine cos it is really making me sick like feeling more nauseated. U think can stop the duphaston?

Brief Answer:
must take it till 16th week

Detailed Answer:
Hello, yes duphaston is a wonderful formulation as it has dydrogesterone which is progesterone and thus helps in supplementing placental function and thus preventing preterm labor.
It is also the best tolerated progesterone out of all other formulations.
If it is making you very nauseated then you can take it with meals and avoid taking large amounts of liquids along.
You at least need to take it till 16 weeks of pregnancy and after that it can be replaced by micronised progesterone which can be taken per vaginum and thus negligible nausea.
So take duphaston as advised till 16th week and then switch over to micronised progesterone after discussion with your gynecologist.
All the best.
