Is It Necessary To Consult A Doctor After Having Miscarriage At Home?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Jun 2015
Question: Hi, Over the weekend I miscarried. I was only at 6 weeks. This has happened before and I passed it at home. This time the same, However this being the second one this year I'm feeling very depressed, and am not ready to go back to work :( I haven't gone to the doctor as I have miscarried before early on and there wasn't much they can do for me. My work is requiring I get a doctors note. I just selected a primary physician whom I have yet to meet. Will he give me a note to give to my employer? Also I tried making an appointment and they can't see me until next week. I do not want to go to the ER. I am no longer bleeding, I don't want the people at the ER to just think I want time off from work. Maybe I am over thinking it? I do not have the best insurance to cover an ultra sound or any tests. I just need a note excusing me for this week so I can mentally ready myself to be back in the work environment.

Brief Answer:
Physician should give you a note.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The primary physician should give a note to the employer. Even if you miscarried at home, this can be confirmed by a simple urine test which will show a weakly positive as the hormones do take time to come down to baseline levels. It is better to talk to the physician first. Do not feel depressed. This is not the need of the world. Life still goes on.
Miscarriages at less than 6 weeks are very common and I have seen many patients having successful pregnancies after that.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
