Brief Answer: Surgical removal is the best option. Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing back Your doctor has given you right suggestion.Severe osteoporosis in post menopausal women need to remove parathyroid glands. Calcium level in body is maintained by parathyroid glands by secreting parathormone hormone. If it secretes excess parathormone hormone then it causes depletion of calcium from the bones.Calcium loss is aggravated by decreased estrogen hormone in post menopausal stage.Estrogen plays protective role against calcium depletion. If there is excess hormone secreted by parathyroid glands then surgical removal is the best option. Some study suggest that surgical removal of gland helps in restoration of calcium and it helps in mineralisation of bones. It also decreases bone pain. So,you should go for surgical removal of parathyroid glands. It will definitely help her. Get well soon. Hope i have answered your query. Further queries are most welcome. Take Care Dr.Indu XXXXXXX
