Brief Answer:
Surgery can be avoided.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The well corticated bone fragment in the knee is a piece of bone that results from a knee injury that caused a piece of bone or cartilage to be chipped off the end of the thighbone or the back of the kneecap. It could happen after one serious injury to the knee or after repeated minor injuries. A problem with the blood supply to the bone may be part of the cause.
If there is no pain or the pain is mild and you can give rest to the knee then you can avoid the surgery. It can heal on its own in 2-3 months.
I hope this answers your query.
