Is It Necessary To Remove Breast Prothesis?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Dec 2014
Question: After a breast augmentation december 2013, I got lymph problem in 1 breast. I already got 36 lymphdrainage with therapeut. Some tell prothesis must get out, other tell perhaps with drainage.
The last year I got: check up cardiac, gynaecology, urology. No real problems.
Last blood check (I can send you copy) only cholesterol too high 270, Gamma GT 99, I have these values since years (61 years old). I asked my doctor what about acid-base in blood. He presume that can not have a relation to the lymph problem. I told food and stress the last years could have been better!. My BMI is 30, since some months I am working on my food and I lost 5 kgs. I have some saliva problems, not really to much saliva but a strang feeling in mouth and stress with the mouthprothesis. I take since 3 months "Nux vomica" homeopathy. I helps a little bit but it is not stopping. I am tired, Always tired. Do you see any solution for me, before I do capsolectomie of breast prothesis????? Thanks for helping me to resolve a real problem since 11 months.

Brief Answer:
Advised to remove prothesis;discuss with surgeon..

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,

1. You are reporting to have high cholesterol for years. May I know if you are taking any medications to lower your high cholesterol levels (HCL)?

2. Having consistent high gamma GT is indicative for possible liver problems:
- alcoholic liver disease?
- fatty liver?
- or drugs' induced liver issues

A copy of your abdominal ultrasound is needed to evaluate the morphology of your liver.

I need to know if you have previous history of drinking alcohol?

3. You are reporting a BMI of 30 and this makes me think that you are overweight. Most probably your liver is also suffering (fatty liver). This might explain high gamma GT levels.

I am happy that you have been losing 5 kgs since some months. Congratulations for that!

4. Having increased saliva is due to mouthprothesis. Oral candida infection is also very common in patients with prothesis. Get your mouth swab cultured for candida to get proper treatment.

5. At your age, although all your lab tests are ok, I advise to remove your breast prothesis. Although they might not be a serious problem now, by passing of years, you might have more serious issues. Better be cautious and get proper measures earlier. If I was your caring doctor, would evaluate your entire health condition and have a long conversation with breast surgeon to discuss the risks and decide to remove the breast prothesis.

Hope it helped!

Hello doctor,

1. I started several times medications for lower cholesterol, but I don't feel good with these and stopped everytime. Just feeling not good with it!

2. I have report of "non-alcoholic fatty liver" Yes I toke medication during 10 years (deanxit, inderal, serenase) en some apero and wine 2/3 times a week, but never had a drinking problem!

3. I know, I'll try to go to BMI 25....

4. Oral candida infection: "mouth swab cultured". What do you mean by that. I tried all kind of rince waters. Which medication do I have to buy?
Is it possible an oral candida infection increases when you drink coffee or alcohol? Isn't this a stress problem?

5. I don't know which decision to take: to remove the 2 breast prothesis definitely, I need an operation of 3 hours, with risks of blooding, and no guarantee that lymph stops. Some say: he did cut a principal lymphway. Others say: he damaged the fat-sack in the breast. Others tell me the prothesis means an obstruction for lymph-flow.... I don't know..really don't know.

Many thanks for help

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection of dentures is common...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for following up.

1. If I was your caring doctor, I too would advise to continue with diet and lifestyle changes first. Herbal supplementation/tea can also help.

2. I am happy to know that you are not consuming alcohol on daily basing or even abusing. I was going through your reports again, and I was not able to see if you have run any test to exclude hepatitis (B, C) until now, If you did not perform such test so far, I highly recommend to run them.

3. Great.

4. First, you need to perform this test. Your doctor will explain better to you: They will swab a cotton swab in your mouth (including your prothesis) and culture on specific media to exclude fungal infection (which is common among my patients with prothesis). Once candida infection is confirmed, anti-fungal treatment is advised (oral miconazole gel or nystatin syrup).

5. To get the best decision, you need a complete check up and discussion with cardiologist, dermatologist and surgeon. I need to have any recent X-ray or ultrasound you performed on your breasts before giving final conclusions.

I need also to know the nature of fluid coming out from lymph-node (serum? or what?)

Hope it helped!
