Brief Answer:
Its normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

It is normal for babies to pass stools after drinking milk. Milk is a laxative and babies pass stools upto 12 or even more times a day while on breastfeed. After passing stools, babies again ask for milk. But it is better to give milk after 2 hrs of previous feed.

It is also normal for a baby to not burp while sleeping mostly because the back is not straight. Since there is gas in stomach that he could not burp, he may pass stools due to the pressure. It is all normal.

Doe she get diaper rash etc?

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Please let me know if you have noticed any diaper rash, redness around anal opening, fever etc. Also let me know the weight and exact age of the baby.

Breastfeeding is a natural process and is usually guided by the demand from the baby. He is asking for milk every hour. It means that milk supply versus growth of baby is not being met.

He will not ask for milk for 2 hrs if you have given him enough feed at a time. Breast feed from both breasts at a time. Sometimes babies pass motions while feeding as well. Sometimes they drink milk all the time. It is all ok and part of the process. You just need to relax, forget other work and focus mostly on breastfeeding. Keep a record of the baby's weight. The exclusive breastfeeding phase lasts for 4 - 6 months depending on the baby's preparedness to start the solid food. Once the baby starts solid food, the interval between feeds increases.

Pacifier is one way to keep the baby busy till you are ready to give the next feed. It is not bad but some experts believe that it is habit forming, may affect the teeth, etc. I personally feel that it is not a big taboo and can be given to babies if needed. Keeping the baby busy in some play activity is also good.

Brief Answer:
His weight is below normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I am sorry to say but his growth his below normal. His weight really dropped down the percentiles on the weight for age growth chart and has gone below the normal range and is below 3rd percentile.

This may have happened due to the medicines he was given for jaundice. I hope he is not on neopeptine now. His stomach upset may be caused by the iron in v and m drops. I would suggest that you discontinue the drops for 2-4 days and check if he gets better. Your breast milk supply is NOT deficient.

There is no harm in giving lactogen or even cow's milk to the baby. In fact he will gain weight really fast on cow's milk. The issue is the bottle feeding. He may give up breastfeeding while on bottle since milk flows effortlessly in bottle. But he has to gain weight. So I would suggest that you give him boiled and cooled cow's milk or lactogen prepared in cleanest water once or twice a day. Donot give cows milk before sleeping since he may not take breast milk during night. Keep giving breast milk regularly. This will increase his immunity. I would also suggest to give him cow's milk after breastfeeding only if you feel he is hungry.

Also dont give him formulas that contain omega 3,6,9. Keep a regular record of his weight.

Hope it helps.
