Question: Hello, I am taking Geodon 60 mg twice a day for schizoaffective disorder, 250 mg depakote in the morning and 500 mg depakote at night for mood stabilization, 20 mg of propranolol twice a day for tachycardia, 0.5 mg klonopin in the morning and 1 mg at night for anxiety, and 50 mg of trazadone at night for insomnia. I switched from trileptal, 150 mg in the morning and 300 mg at night to depakote, 250 mg in the morning and 500 mg at night. Is it okay to switch back to trileptal directly because depakote causes liver damage?

Brief Answer:
Can be done

Detailed Answer:
Dear,

I like to inform you that both trileptal and Depakote act as mood stabiliser and can be used for each other. As I know from the previous queries you responded well to Trileptal in past so I do not think there is any harm to return back to Trileptal from Depakote.

You are right in saying that the Depakote is associated with liver enzyme elevation although it is just a side effect and most individuals do not experience it even after lifetime use.

I mean to say that the medicine can be changed if required (have side effects) but should not be changed due to fear of side effects.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
