Is It Possible For An Ultrasound To Miss A Gestational Sac?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2016
Question: hey i went through an abortion with twins with a girl i had a one night stand with. it was something we agreed on.

one baby was terminated and the other had complications as to because it had apparently moved from the uterus somewhere else. which i believe is a ectopic pregnancy. we decided to.proceed with the abortion but we went to the hospital first because she had heavy bleeding. we thought she could possibly be misscarrying. but we got. we explained what we did with the abortion and how it may have moved above her uterus before any tests were performed. so they knew what the scenario was.

finally after hours we got the results and they came.in saying that her uterus was.non gravid and that there were no intrauterin gestation present and that she also had a empty bladder and uterus but she did have a cyst on her ovary to.look at. so we thought the pregnancy was over.

few weeks later she became really.hostile.towards me almost angry and upset with me and she begin to.twll.me that she lied about the urine sample at the hospital and that she lied about the ultrasound to.the doctor that was doing it. but the papers say otherwise .

she is now.claiming that she is still pregneant and she is threatening to run away and never let me see the baby she would be around 14 weeks.now.if thats the case but i have spoken to many people and all led me.to believe she is making this up out of spitefullness and hate. or a way to try and get me to.talk and see her when it has not done any good for.me.mentally and.i am really stressed out.

if it is possible wouldnt she be left with an ectopic pregnancy and would the doctors not disclose tht type of information. i did a ton of research on all the medical terms in that paper and they all lead to me to believe that there was no longer a pregnancy

i just want to know based off what i have given you if there is a possibility of.her being pregnant even tho.the hospital papers say otherwise? and if that was something they would miss even though we told.them.about it? or if there is no possibility and she is try9ng to play tricks.with my head ?

Brief Answer:
get serum beta hcg test done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
She is not pregnant at all and there is a large hemorrhagic complex cyst which is likely to be endometriotic in nature and shall need to be addressed as it can cause pressure and pain symptoms and also may have a risk of rupture inside the peritoneal cavity.
Pregnancy is not seen on ultrasound and as its been a month post USG even if there would have been an ectopic pregnancy, still that too would not have sustained and there would have been a rupture by now.
The best way to put her doubts to rest is to get a serum beta hcg test with is a blood test and highly specific for hcg secreted by placental foetal tissue. So if the levels of hcg are less than 5ng/dl then she is not pregnant at all and the symptoms that she is experiencing is likely to be due to premenstrual; syndrome and that her menses are likely to start in next few days.
So please get the serum beta hcg test done.

but do those papers verify that they checked gor all possibilities of pregnancy? because she is really difficult to talk.to and i wouldnt knnow how to get that done .

also it says apparently there was not a hgc blood serum performed.......is that because she showed no signs of pregnancy to begin with?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The usg says just no pregnancy in uterus and with endometrial thickness of just 10mm, THERE IS NO PREGNANCY AT ALL, neither uterine nor ectopic simply because in pregnancy the endometrial thickness would have been 16-18mm due to endoetrial decidual reaction which was not seen.
Unfortunately serum beta hcg test was not done which is confirmatory and should have been done. Even if there may have been an abortion still the endometrial thickness would have been high and serum beta hcg test with hcg levels would have been high still.
Anyhow the present issue is that she thinks that she is pregnant and in certain cases when the lady desires the pregnancy most, one may experience false pregnancy or pseudocyesis, so serum beta hcg test is mandatory to convince her.
