Answered by Dr. Kathy Robinson (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
physical exam, prenatal vitamins, sex around time of ovulation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.

The first thing to do is go to your doctor and get a general physical exam and lab work to make sure that you are healthy. Pregnancy is much easier if you are healthy to start with. Before you start to try to become pregnant get on a prenatal vitamin with folate. This can prevent birth defects and assure that your early pregnancy is healthy. Your time of ovulation is 14 days after the beginning of your period. If you have sex regularly just before and during your time of ovulation this will give you the best chance of a successful pregnancy.

Good luck to you for a healthy pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
yes, it is possible

Detailed Answer:
It is true that the older women are the more complications there can be with a pregnancy. However, many women in their late thirties and early forties have successful pregnancies and normal babies. If your periods are regular and you are generally healthy then you have a very good chance of a successful pregnancy.

The other thing that worries me that I won't conceive is because I am overweight and my husband smokes but has cut down and drinks beer within alcohol guidelines. But he does have children its me who has no children and have never been pregnant

Hello and thanks for your follow up.

It is certainly healthier to go into a pregnancy at a healthy body weight. Working on weight loss as be consider pregnancy is a great thing for you and your baby. It makes it even more important that you see a doctor for a check up before you begin try to get pregnant. It is important for you not to drink or smoke at all during pregnancy, but your husband drinking in moderation and smoking should not harm the baby.

Is it true that if you don't have intercourse around ovulation you won't get pregnant? Problem is I have never used contraception was not sexually active until 27 years of age only had one partner my husband and never been pregnant though intercourse is never regular can sometimes go 2 months with no sex. Just worries me that I have never caught have I just been unlucky? I don't know if I should be worried about infertility though my own doctor is not concerned about infertility at all
doctor
Answered by Dr. Kathy Robinson (29 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
yes must have intercourse around ovulation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, We do not really worry about infertility until a couple has been having regular intercourse for over one year without conceiving. By regular intercourse we mean having sex at least 2-3 days per month around the time of ovulation. If sperm are not pregnant during the time of ovulation, no pregnancy can occur.
