Question : Is it possible to get a different type of herpes while having one already? A friend has the type that can only be contracted through genital touch and I think he might be sleeping around too. I want to know if it would be safe to share utensils with him.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I understand your concern. To answer your first question first, yes, it is possible to get a different type of herpes while you are already infected with another type. Unfortunately, having one type of herpes doesn't make you immune to other types.
The type 1 herpes is transmitted through oral secretions and can be spread through kissing, sharing eating utensils and toothbrushes, so it would be best to avoid sharing these with an infected person.
I hope this answers your question satisfactorily. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
