Question: are there any narcotic pain killers available by prescription that do not end in codone . meaning hydrocodone or oxycodone?

1. Morphine
2. Fentanyl
3. Tramadol
4.Demerol
5.Hydromorphone

There might be others as well, but the above ones are the most commonly used

1. GOOD MORNING DOCTOR, THANK YOU FOR THE LIST. WHAT IS THE MAIN INGREDIENT IN THE "CODONES" THAT YOU MIGHT THINK I AM ALLERGIC TO THAT MAKES ME ITCH? DO YOU KNOW OF ANY ANTIDOTE THAT I COULD TAKE CONCURRENTLY WITH ONE OF THESE DRUGS TO FIGHT THE ITCHING?
2. OUT OF THOSE 5 DRUGS, WHICH ONE DO YOU THINK HAS THE LEAST SIDE EFFECTS" AND ALSO, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU PREFER TO PRESCRIBE FOR OVERALL INTRACTABLE BACK & LEG PAIN?
3. NOW YOU KNOW WHY I AM ON MY THIRD PCP IN 2.5 YEARS. HE ALREADY KNOWS I AM ALLERGIC TO CODONE, SO HE PRESCRIBES OXYCODONE. WHAT A GENIUS? I DIDN'T KNOW THAT ON FRIDAY, BUT, I AM NOT A DOCTOR, EITHER. HE IS THE ONE WITH THE SHINGLE OUTSIDE THE DOOR, NOT ME.
4. I HAD A CONSULT WITH A NEUROSURGEON, HE CLAIMS HE CANNOT HELP ME, THAT HE DID NOT SEE ANYTHING ON THE MRI THAT WAS IMPINGING ON ANY NERVES. MY NEXT VISIT IS GOING TO BE AN ORTHO. I DO NOT WANT TO BE ON PILLS THE REST OF MY LIFE, BUT I HAVE HEARD OF HORROR OF OPERATIONS GONE WRONG ON THE BACK. IT GIVES ME PAUSE.

Thanks for getting back. I shall answer to your questions one by one so that I dont miss any

1.It is hard to tell what you might be allergic to, most often it is the colouring agent used in these tablets that the patient are allergic to. Changing the brand has helped in few of my patients
2.I prefer Tramadol. It is a good drug, however it has issues with dependency and addiction like all narcotic when given for a prolonged period of time
