Brief Answer:
surgery may be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Wish you good health.

I am not sure what extent of disease and GIST size is there but if there isnt indication for surgical removal then probably this is metastatic disease in late phase. Usually GIST is discovered in early phase when it can be removed completely but if distatn metastases are found then chemotjerapy is required. Gleevac can be used together with other intraabdominal chemo protocols. results depends from man to man. Complications such as ascites, intestinal obstruction or bleeding can be managed by certain invasive and nononvasive methods. If there is fluid build up or comoression on diaphragm with breathing diffciulties then tumor mass can be reduced surgically if surgeon can approach to tumor.

Wish you good health Regards

did you get my question about the best place to have surgery if needed?

She is going to try and be drained (belly) today. If no success what would you all suggest be the next step! IF surgery is the only alternative, would it be wise to have it at the XXXXXXX clinic or the Mayo clinic as they hopefully have the expertise to do the best job. I appreciate your help in this matter. thank you.

Brief Answer:
i didnt get this question

Detailed Answer:
Well I dont see a reason to look for some more sophiaticated or more popular institution as it cant give better treatment comparing to any hospital with abdominal surgery department. If there is disseminated intraabdominal tumor then palliative surgical measures such as drainage, tumor reduction, colostomy or ileostomy or intestinal bypasses, can be performed at any institution since these are routine abdominal surgical procedure and you will waste time by looking some more experienced surgeons. I hope that drainage was succesful
