Is It Safe For A Baby To Consume Castor Oil For Constipation?

Question: My baby is 4months old. She does poop once in every 24hrs or alternate day. My in-laws are giving castrol oil for 3 days in milk. Is it safe for baby to consume?

Hi,

Let me assure you that if a child is breast fed, it is ok for the child to poop once in 10 days as it is to poop ten times a day. In either of the cases all you need to do is to continue breast feeding and no additional step is needed. The child does not need castor oil and for children below 6 months of age we recommend nothing other than exclusive breast feeding. So, I would suggest the castor oil to be stopped.
