Brief Answer:
Talk to the doctor prescribing the blood thinner first

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thank you for using Healthcare Magic. It is best to ask the doctor who is prescribing your blood thinner if it is safe to stop it. There are many different blood thinners, and many different reasons for taking them, so a blanket statement can't be made about stopping them even for a few days without knowing the condition you are taking them for and the type of blood thinner it is.

Also, what type of procedure is your dentist doing that would require the stopping of your meds? I would not expect this to be done for just a routine checkup. At the least, your dentist should discuss this with your doctor to see if this is advisable.

Depending on the nature of the dental procedure- such as if excessive bleeding is a concern, your underlying problem, and the specific medicine you are taking, it may or may not be safe to stop the blood thinner for a few days.

Find out exactly what procedure the dentist is planning. Call the doctor prescribing the blood thinner and ask him or her if you can stop the medicine for a few days before the procedure. S/he knows your situation best, and should have the final say in whether it is safe to stop it.

Hope this answers your query. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them.
