Question : My wife has IUD copper T for 5 years. we are supposed to remove it in Nov 2015 and it was applied on Nov 2010. But we have not removed till now, is there any disadvantage as it was delayed. Please suggest.

Less effective if expired. Remove at the earliest.

1) If IUD Copper-T (5 years longevity) is expired as mentioned, then I suggest you to REMOVE as early as possible at the time of period and after few days, you wear NEW one.

2) Disadvantage includes: Less effective in prevention of unwanted pregnancy, risk of pelvic or vaginal infection, irregular spotting etc.

3) Kindly, consult with your nearest OBGYN to remove at the earliest and wear new Copper-T for safety and efficacy.
