Is It Safe To Give Advil Along With Tylenol For Fever And Dry Cough?

Question: My 17 year old son has 104 fever and a mild dry cough. I gave him 2 advil 45 min ago and fever is now 103.2.
Can i piggy-back tylenol or go to ER?

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Advil is ibuprofen . It can be once in 8 hours.
If fever is not settling you can add tylenol every 6 hours.
Try one or two doses of tylenol too. You can give advil too every 8 hours
If fever does not settle it is better to take him to ER.
He might have a throat infection, a throat swab for streptococcus will identify if it is present, antibiotics like amoxicillin may be needed.

Ensure he drinks plenty of liquids to keep him hydrated during fever.
