Is It Safe To Have Primolut N During Breast Feeding?
Thanks and regards
XXXXXXX
You can use but after physician's consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Any hormonal medications should not be used during breast feeding. Hormonal agents can affect the breast milk production.
Primolut N contains norethisterone and this comes under only-progesterone pill group.
Oral contraceptives which can be used to delay menstruation can contain both estrogen and progesterone or progesterone only. Although one should avoid both of these during lactation period, breast milk production is affected more by estrogen and very little by progesterone.
XXXXXXX academy of pediatrics has approved progesterone only pill in breast feeding women if it is needed.
It may have side effects like nausea, bloating of abdomen, headache or some skin problem. Don't use if there is history of excessive vaginal bleed, heart disease, increased blood pressure, clotting abnormality.
So You should avoid these medication but if necessary you can use it thrice daily starting three days prior to expected menstrual period only after physician's consultation.
I will be glad to answer if you have any further query.
