Is It Safe To Have Telmisartan And Dytor Together At Same Time?

Question: I was taking envasH 5mg (enampril) for my BP now my doctor has changed my medicine to TelmirideH 40 along with Dytor 10 as I have been having slight swelling on both my ankles for some time now. My kidney and liver function test are normal with a slight elevation of pottasium (5.30 Mmol) I have been advised to take Dytor10 for 5 days. Is it Ok to take both medication together? Should I stopt TelmirideH 40 for 5 days when I am taking Dytor? Could you please advise. My BP is normal now.

Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
You can continue with both and stop Dytor after 5 days. Dytor will help in getting your potassium levels to normal that have been raised by Enalapril.
If you can manage, I would advise you to take Plain Telmisartan (Telma) instead of Telma-H along with Dytor for 5 days. After 5 days you Can stop Dytor and continue with Telma-H.

Thank you Doctor for your reply. A small querry I want to know if Telmiride H 40 is a stronger dose than the Envas H 5mg that i was taking? In fact i had on my own tried to reduce the dosge to 2.5 (without the Doctors advise) as i felt my BP has been very much under control for some time. My concern is that i do not want to start any BP medicine of a higher dose at this stage. My lipid profile is also normal now. I did ask this question to my Doc who said it varies from company to company and drug wise too so this 40 is not a strong dosage for this drug. I would appreciate your advise on the same. Regards. Dear Friend
It is not like that Enalapril is stronger then Telmisartan. Both have different mechanism of actions.
The most common side effects of Enalapril are elevated pottasium and dry cough.
Since you developed increase in pottasium levels, so i have advised you Telmisartan.
Dosage would be based on your BP readings.
Kindly mention your BP readings.

Thank you Doctor for your reply. My BP is 80/145. Is Telmeride20 good enough. What i meant was not to ask if the medicine was stronger than Enam but is the dose of Telmiride40 a higher dose as compared to Enam5 mg.

At this BP reading, I would advise you to take a Temiride 40 mg once a day. Its almost equivalent to Enalapril 5mg.
