Question: I am an 88 year old PD male with back pain and I know that Tramadol works well for back pain. As I take Sinemet Cr 3 times a day and other PD medications, wonder if I could take Tramadol or not.For my walking problems, and posture I take PT twice a week. but I don't exercise at home. If I could get rid of the lower back pain will be great/ Thanks
Thanks in advance. XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care questions.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with back pain. In my practice I use tramadol frequently for back pain. It works very well for control of pain and not have problems with addiction as opiates cause. In your case there is a slight increase in risk of something called serotonin syndrome when taking tramadol with Lexapro. This is a potentially life threatening condition where the bodies neurological system becomes overheated. This can cause seizures and high fevers. The risk is small but it is there. You would need to discuss this risk with your doctor and decide if thee benefits outweigh the risks.

In summary
1. tramadol good pain reliever
2. Small drug interaction with Lexapro called serotonin syndrome
3. Discuss with MD if benefits out weigh risks

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care questions or concerns.
