Is It Safe To Have Urispas For Recurrent UTI?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: Hi,

I had a UTI a couple of months back. I had back then taken the following tablets:

Cifran 500mg (1-0-1), taxim-o 200 mg(1-0-1), cobadex(0-0-1), zinetac(1-0-1), vibact-ds-(1-0-0)

and Urispas and Citralka Syrup.

Recently when I went for a healthcheckup which included urine routine test, the doctor told that I have traces of UTI still.

I have given for urine culture test and will get the report day after tomorrow.

Untill then I have 2 questions:

1. How often can I take Urispas, since I can't remember how often I took it last time

2. Can I take the other tablets I was prescribed the last time?

Brief Answer:
Need more details. Wait for the culture report.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

I understand from your description that you had suffered with UTI couple of months back and was prescribed these medications. Now on routine health check up they found that you still have traces of UTI, have given urine for culture and sensitivity, and wish to take the previously prescribed medications for the same problem.

I would like to know whether you have any symptoms of UTI like burning sensation while urinating, abdominal pain, increase in frequency of urination and loss of bladder control.

Please upload the urine routine report for my reference.

I would suggest not to take any medications, if you do not have any symptoms and as you have given urine for culture and sensitivity, we can wait till then.

If you have any symptoms, then taking antibiotics previously taken might not help as most of the times the infecting organism might be resistant to that particular drug. So, in such cases, change in antibiotics would be needed.

Urispas is usually prescribed three to four times a day depending on the severity.

Meanwhile you can follow these measures:
1. Consume plenty of water.
2. Cranberry juice, if available in your area, can be consumed as it considered to help in UTI.
3. Consume more of citric fruit juices and vitamin C supplements like Limcee tab once a day.
4. If you have abdominal pain then hot water bag fomentation will help in relieving it.

Awaiting for your reply.

Regards.
