Brief Answer:
Suggetions on Pyridoxine supplements

Detailed Answer:
HI...Usually among all the vitamins - B1, B6 and B12 are known to rejuvenate the nervous system as they help in the myelin sheath formation of the nerves. In adults lack of these vitamin may manifest as neuralgic pain and tremors and numbness.

But in your kid's case I understand that he is having a neurodegenerative disorder and in this condition there will be loss of already acquired milestones too. There is also a possibility of seizures.

Role of Pyridoxine in Neurological disorders - The requirement of pyridoxine in the CNS is a 100-fold greater than in the peripheral organs which is a well established truth. Vitamin B6 is required for amino acid metabolism. It is stored primarily in the liver and to a lesser extent in the muscle and brain. Pyridoxine, in doses equivalent or higher to the recommended daily allowance, may be beneficial in improving the overall metabolism of the brain.

But there is no specific recommendation as to give this vitamin for betterment in your kid's specific condition. But off label usage is being done all over the world.

Brief Answer:
Omega 3 fatty acids

Detailed Answer:
Hi....by what you quote I feel it could also be a periventricular leukomalacia... A condition that affects white matter of brain on premature infants. If this is so the situation is hopeful. I was glad when you told that actually he's improving.

Omega-3 fatty acids both protect the brain and promote improved cognition and memory and help in rejuvenation of white matter. These are available as over the counter food supplement too. Adults who take in more omega-3 fatty acids have more brain matter and more functional brains...this is a scientifically proven fact.

If you can quote the exact diagnosis made by the neurologist. It would be helpful for me to guide you.

But in almost all neurological conditions- 2 things are very important.... Seizure control and physiotherapy. I adivse you to adhere to physiotherapy meticulously.

Hi...that sounds pretty promising. That means even internally there's no seizure activity in the brain. Its a good point for prognosis.

Follow my suggestions on physiotherapy.

Dear Dr.
We are already going under Occupational therapy from the age of 10 months and we take the plan and do it at home and now form the age of 2 it is done thrice by the specialist and daily at home. about the Omega fatty acid, we have given him flex seed oil, fish oil for 1 year (also B12 oral for 3-4 months). In 8th month of my pregnancy i took few medicines of omega 3 from gynae and one of the name was Madha capsules. Everything was normal and good before that. Is that the reason that cerebral artery flow during 8th month started getting reduced which was noticed in 1st week of 9th month and because of which he was not growing. Attached are all the reports of my son with consultations from neurologist and genetics. I wanted to know, does white matter increases naturally with increasing age or through medications. Right now we are not giving any allopathic medicines but he is on homeopathy treatment from very renowned homeopathic dr. of XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Inborn error of metabolism

Detailed Answer:
Hi...I apologize for the delay in replying. The files could not be downloaded in my XXXXXXX and just now I went through all your reports in detail.

First of all I want to reassure that you are in the safest hands - Prof XXXXXXX Kalra and Prof IC XXXXXXX are the most eminent in this field.

The reports are suggestive of IEM or Inborn errors of metabolism.

If there are no seizures it is a good sign.

White matter increases naturally . There are no known proven 100% effective treatment to increase the myelination.

I do not think the Omega 3 fatty supplements you took during pregnancy are related to this.

I suggest you continue with the supplements usggested by Prof XXXXXXX Kalra.

Suggestions in improving white matter

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I suggest using Pyridoxine (Benadon) and Omega 3 Fatty acids. There no harm in using them. You can use Flex seed oil too.

I am sorry to say that there are no specific medications to allopathy which are 100% effective in improving white matter.

But I again reiterate the fact that physiotherapy is of utmost importance.
