Question : I have been diagnoised with CKD. My GFR is at 15 and it has been suggested that I insert a fistula in my arm for future use of dialysis? I have been taking supplements in hopes this would help me but my Gfr continues to decrease, I've only been on the supplements for about a month and half, so not sure if there working. I wondering if I have to have that inserted at this time, the doctor says it takes 6-8 months to get ready for dialysis. What is the lowest GFR one can deal with? I'm told I can get ill? I've had so many reservations about this, and was going to get a second oppinion, here I am! Can CKD stop? I've been trying so hard to prevent the possible outcome. I am just wanting to see what your thoughts are, and if I should go forward with the insert?? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you..
Brief Answer:
Get the fistula
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
We have seen patients with a single digit GFR being maintained on dialysis.Yes, not all get ill but we have to be prepared. CKD reversal depends on the underlying cause. I would like to know what is the cause in you.
I suggest you to get the fistula, once ill it would be difficult to secure one.
Regards
