Question : Is it ok to take Zoloft from different manufacterers at the same time? I've ordered from several different sources and they each have different side effects. By cutting them in half and combining them I can reduce the severity of the side effects. but I've heard it's not recommended to take different formulations of the same drug. also taking smaller dosed throughout the day seems to keep me on a more even keel.

Brief Answer:
Take drug of one company at a time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.

Let me explain you the logic behind this. Absorption of drug in body is called bioequivalence and it is the comparative evaluation of drug bioavailability from two different formulations or products that contain the same drug. It is also defined as the absence of a significant difference in the rate and extent to which the active ingredient or active moiety in medicine available at the site of drug action when administered at the same molar dose under similar conditions.

When we take a drug of different pharmaceutical company, it lead to different bioavailability and bioequivalence. That lead to different effect and side effects due to their different formulation. Better to take medicine which suites you rather than mixing them.

In case, you need further help, you can ask.

I don't understand the explanation. Is it harmful to combine two formulations? or is it safe but not as effective? Here's the problem, I can't take a full dose of one pill because of the side effects. Daxid works best but gives me bad headaches. Zoloft makes me very sleepy. I don't have these problems taking half.
Follow-up question. I want to know if combining Zoloft and Daxid is harmful. Is it better to take a smaller less effective dose of one pill or the full dose combined? or should I ask my doctor to try a different drug? This drug works well for me except for the side effects. I'm using it for anxiety.

Brief Answer:
You can try both drugs in half dose

Detailed Answer:
HI

Both daxid and zoloft contain sertraline and it is a SSRIs. Both are manufactured by pfizer. Zoloft is generic drug and daxid is branded. A brand-name drug and its generic version usually have the same active ingredient, dosage, safety, strength, usage directions, quality, performance and intended use, so there is no harm in mixing them.

In your case, you can take these drugs together as both contains same ingredient, but side effects of individual drugs could be due to different formulation. You can take both drugs to make one effective dose for a day. That would help to control anxiety symptoms. You can take half dose of both drugs like take daxid half in morning and zoloft at night, for example if you need 100 mg of sertraline a day, then you can try 50 mg of daxid in morning and 50 mg of zoloft at night. That would help to control symptoms as well as over come side effects.
