Question: hello i have breast augmentation surgery scheduled for tomorrow. My surgeon request a CBC and pregnancy test which i had done monday, cbc came out fine and i am not pregnant. i went to my pcp about one week ago and had blood work done, the dr office just called me and let me know that i have a slight uti and prescribed antibiotics that i can start taking after surgery, my question is does this affect my surgery having the uti present?

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read your history and understood your concerns.
Since you have mentioned that you have been told about ''slight'' UTI and prescribed antibiotic and told that you can start taking after surgery by your PCP office indicates that you can go for surgery. Otherwise you would have been told to postpone surgery.
This may mean that UTI is just noticed by the report and as you have not mentioned any symptoms related to urinary tract and if you do not have any such symptoms you can go for surgery.
Ultimately it is the last opinion of your operating Surgeon that matters the most.
Unless there is catherization or dehydration, slight UTI should not cause any problems and antibiotic would have been started immediately.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for any further query if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Thank you so much for your response. I have not had any symptoms and would have never thought i had one if she had no called to inform me. CBC that was done on monday came back normal. would the CBC have caught the infection if there really is one present?

Brief Answer:
only if severe infecion

Detailed Answer:
CBC can show increased WBC count in severe infections only.
Nice to know that you do not have symptoms and just follow the advise of your operating Surgeon, if he says - go ahead with surgery.
Wish you all the best.
