You can use the emergency pill for one or two occasions in a year. These intakes should be spaced apart and not within the same cycle. This is because the pill contains high doses of hormone and this creates hormone imbalances. In fact, this is the basis for the efficacy of the pill.

The disturbance in the hormone milieu caused by the pill can cause withdrawal bleeds, delayed natural cycles and if used frequently, can cause abnormal menstrual patterns that can result in future fertility problems.
