Is It Safe To Use Lubricant During Intercourse While Trying To Conceive?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: Hi. I am a fe.ale of 26 yrs of age. I am trying to conceive. Can we use lubricant during intercourse? Dr. has suggested us to indulge in intercourse every 48 hrs. But due to busy office schedules and hectic lifestyles we are unable to do so. Also I don't get much lubricated easily. Is it safe to use Durex play lube? And are Ovulation predictor kits of any use? Should I buy and use them?

In my opinion lubricants are not advisable.

As mostly they contain chemicals which may be alter the apt environment in vagina and in turn effecting the sperm vitality.

I need further information like:-
1) How many years of marital life?
2) How are your cycles?
3) Did you use any contraception prior?
4) what is your height and weight?

Brief Answer:
ovulation predictor kit is effective

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, I got your information and I am sorry for your condition.

In my opinion as you have just stopped using contraception you need not worry. Because if the pregnancy has not occurred after one year of unprotected intercourse then intervention is needed.

Some of the lubricants have spermicidals ie.,which kill sperms. So water based lubricants without spermicidals might be helpful. But mostly try to avoid them as natural way is always best. Give more importance to foreplay which might increase the natural secretions.

Ovulation predictor kit can be used and they are effective. They detect the LH hormone in urine. Ovulation occurs 24 to 48 hours of LH surge in the body. So during the ovulation time you can check daily at same time . Ovulation occurs on 3rd after the kit is positive. And that will be the fertile day. Lifespan of ovum is 12 to 24 hours and sperm is 24 to 48 hours. So fertilisation should occur within that span.

As your cycles are irregular it might be always better to practice intercourse daily. Otherwise atleast on alternative days.

One more thing is your weight is not appropriate to the height. So try to reduce the weight by exercise daily and avoiding junk food. Include fruits and veggies in diet. Try to come upto 60 kg. Even this will give you best results.

Also see for any associated conditions like polycystic ovarian disease(PCOD) which can be known by ultrasound.

Last but very important thing is avoid stress and hectic lifestyles, because they cause lot of hormonal imbalance in the body leading to infertility. Leave away the anxiety regarding pregnancy or anything and be free and go on with positive attitude. This will really help you.

this satisfies your query.
Feel free to ask any more queries.
Best regards...Dr.srilatha.
