Is Light Yellow Discharge In A Young Female Child Due To A Bacterial Infection?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2022
Question: My daughter her age is 5 years 6 months, discharging light yellow liquid i hope it is discharging from Vagina. She is itching front side. We can see little bit light yellow color discharge in her underwear. This started since 20 days, and now she is saying itching is not there.

Her mother is having the same problem but not itching and a kind of smell is there some time. Her age is 30.

Is it a kind of bacterial infection or any other reason please advise and prescribe any medicine for my daughter and if possible to my wife as well.

Regards

Brief Answer:
May be bacterial or fungal infection

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

White or light yellowish discharge from genital tract with itching in this age is commonly due to bacterial or fungal infection.
Giving therapy like combination of antibiotic with antifungal(like Metronidazole with fluconazole or other combination) helps in most of the cases.
Maintaining proper hygiene is very important otherwise the infection may recur.

In children worm infection can lead to irritation and discharge(improper hygiene like wiping from back to front causes contamination of fecal matter with pin worm to genitals). I would request you to consult a pediatrician for local examination and prescription of the medications.
The same combination of antibiotic with antifungal can also be used for mother after consultation with gynecologist.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards
