Question: I have a history of diverticulis. Currently having a flare up but no temp yet. Trying to stay on clear liquids....sometimes I can keep from having to go on antibiotics that way!! Wondering how long I should maintain the clear liquids and what should be the next step. Usually start with scrambled eggs or somthing similar..chicken noodle soup?? Any ideas..I'm hungry ;(

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics. Liquid diet for 2-3 days

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
I have gone through the details you have provided.

I would suggest to start antibiotics if you have a flare and it would not be advisable to avoid them as antibiotics help to prevent complications of a flare.Oral antibiotics would be fine. You'll need to consult your doctor to get a prescription

Regarding your diet i would advise clear liquid diet for 2- 3 days. In case after two to three days pain has reduced you can start on a soft diet. Scrambled eggs and soup both are fine options.

Seek immediate medical attention if you have

Temperature >100.1°F (38°C)
Worsening or severe abdominal pain
An inability to tolerate fluids

Hope this helps,
